Weatherby has launched the .257 D Weatherby drop-point hunting knife, handcrafted by Dan Weatherby from repurposed rifle barrels. The knife features a San Mai Damascus blade and a durable Micarta handle, designed for rugged performance. Each knife is accompanied by a custom Kydex sheath and showcases a blend of craftsmanship and functionality.
Weatherby states “The Weatherby family has a long tradition of craftsmanship, and Adam’s brother, Dan Weatherby, proudly carries that legacy forward. As a custom knife maker, Dan crafts unique blades using repurposed Weatherby rifle barrels and brass. For a limited time, he’ll be offering small-batch, handcrafted knives exclusively on the Weatherby website. The first release is a custom .257 WBY knife. Its blade is forged from a stainless steel Accumark barrel combined with a high-carbon steel rod, creating a striking San Mai Damascus pattern. The blade is acid-etched and parkerized for enhanced corrosion resistance in the field. The handle is made from durable Micarta and finished with a .257 WBY case head accent. Each knife comes with a custom-molded Kydex sheath for protection and field use.
Purpose-built for the hunt, this custom drop point knife is a fusion of rugged performance and heirloom craftsmanship. The blade is hand-forged using a San Mai Damascus technique, combining a 52100 high-carbon ball bearing steel core with a stainless steel jacket repurposed from a Weatherby Accumark barrel. The result is a striking, one-of-a-kind blade with exceptional edge retention and real Weatherby history forged into the steel. Heat-treated to a Rockwell hardness of 61–62 HRC, it’s designed to handle everything from field dressing to fine detail work.
Measuring 3 ¾” at the cutting edge with an overall length of 8″, this knife offers a well-balanced profile for both strength and control. The .125″ spine and parkerized finish deliver durability and corrosion resistance in even the harshest conditions.
The handle is built from durable Canvas Micarta and fastened with a custom mosaic pin and a .257 WBY MAG case head—bringing a handcrafted touch to every detail. Each knife is proudly made in the USA and comes equipped with a molded Kydex sheath for secure carry in the field.”
