GiantMouse releases the Redington N690

GiantMouse has introduced the Redington N690 survival knife, designed with insights from survival experts in Maine’s harsh wilderness. Featuring durable N690 steel and Milled Double Black Canvas Micarta for secure handling, this knife prioritizes functionality over aesthetics. It is crafted for reliability in extreme conditions, ensuring performance for outdoor adventurers.

When we set out to design a survival blade that could handle a global environment, we knew we couldn’t do it alone. We went to the source.

In the remote wilderness of Maine, there is a place synonymous with mystery and rumor. Redington. Once a bustling township, it now serves as the epicenter of field training for the U.S. Military SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) School. It is a landscape that is formidable and unforgiving—a place where the environment is the primary adversary

The Redington was designed with direct input from the professionals who teach the art of survival in Maine’s most brutal conditions. These instructors don’t care about showpieces. They care about what works when other gear fails, calories run low, and the margin for error disappears. We took their hard-earned insights—the necessity for a tool that performs when the body is exhausted and the conditions are at their worst—and we gave it the GiantMouse soul. The result is a knife stripped of clinical pretense, focused entirely on the ergonomic and functional realities of high-stress field use.

A tool destined for the Maine wilderness should be built for every trail and every hand. We chose N690 Steel for the Redington, a battle-tested workhorse that delivers high-end toughness, corrosion resistance, and dependable edge holding power. Using N690 helps us put a truly uncompromising outdoor tool into the hands of more adventurers heading into the brush. From processing game in a downpour to splitting firewood at camp, it is built to perform when it matters most.

To ensure a secure interface between hand and tool, we utilized Milled Double Black Canvas Micarta for the scales. The precise milling provides a functional “bite” that remains effective in wet or muddy conditions, while the canvas construction offers the long-term durability required for a lifetime of hard use.

Named after the ghost town that serves as the proving ground for students and instructors alike, the Redington is a tool of pure utility. It is a tribute to the quiet resilience of the Maine woods and the professionals who call them home. Secured in a custom-molded Kydex sheath for silent, reliable carry, it is designed for immediate deployment when the situation turns sideways.

This isn’t just another knife in our lineup. It’s a survival tool inspired by the Maine wilderness, honed by professional experience, and built to endure. Whether you are navigating the dense timber of the Northeast or setting up camp in your own neck of the woods, the Redington is ready for whatever life throws your way.
