SureFire has launched the SOCOM-4 suppressor series, enhancing the previous SOCOM556-RC3 model. This new series employs advanced gas-flow technology, offering a 60% reduction in back pressure, improved flash suppression, and increased durability. Two models—the SOCOM556-RC4 and SOCOM556-MINI4—will cater to diverse weapon platforms, all at a lower price point.
Surefire states “SureFire SOCOM-4 series suppressors answer a critical question we asked in the wake of the SOCOM556-RC3: Can we honestly develop an even better combat-grade suppressor than the RC3? The answer is an emphatic yes.
We knew that pushing the envelope with the SOCOM-4 wasn’t going to be easy, as the RC3 marked a quantum technological leap in low-back-pressure suppressor design for combat use, developed via the most intensive program we’ve ever undertaken for any SureFire product. We worked in conjunction with the brightest minds in computational fluid dynamics, utilized highly advanced supercomputers, and developed proprietary software that predicts every aspect of gas flow through a suppressor. The result was highly accurate data that no one—including us—had ever seen before. Our groundbreaking R&D program enabled us to develop innovative baffle profiles that optimize gas flow, delivering a dramatic 60 percent reduction in back pressure while improving our signature flash suppression and maintaining the consistent sub-MOA impact shift of our SOCOM-RC2 series. The RC3 also maintained class-leading sound suppression to protect hearing and preserve communication on the battlefield.
As amazing as the RC3 was, we knew it could be improved. So, we did what we always do: innovate. Using our proprietary, supercomputer-derived modeling, our engineers created an entirely new front-to-back design with improved gas-flow dynamics. As a result, the SOCOM-4 virtually eliminates viewable frontal flash to further reduce the chance of detection by an enemy positioned directly forward of the muzzle—a game-changing, life-saving advantage in a head-on gunfight. It is a stealthier, no-compromise combat suppressor that delivers 60 percent less back pressure than a traditional suppressor, reducing toxic gas in the shooter’s face, improving a cleaner firearm, and providing superior recoil control.
But that isn’t all. End-user feedback from our valued military customers resulted in a complete remodel of the SOCOM-4’s muzzle—perhaps the most striking visual difference between it and previous SOCOM suppressors. Its beefed-up design provides even greater durability when subjected to extreme abuse in the harshest combat environments.
Moreover, the SOCOM-4 series is just that, a series. SureFire is entering the market with two all-new models—the SOCOM556-RC4, the SOCOM556-MINI4, with 6mm ARC and 7.62mm models joining the family soon. Even better, lessons we’ve learned in additive manufacturing have allowed us to offer them, with all their mission-critical improvements and increased durability, at a lower price than the SOCOM556-RC3.
And here is another SureFire-first: While in the past we recommended that our customers choose between SOCOM-MINI models for use only on weapons platforms with 14.5-inch or longer barrels due to meet their flash-suppression expectations, the SOCOM-4 flow dynamics are so effective that we confidently recommend MINI4s for use with any 10.3-inch or longer barrel. The longer RC4 is still quieter than the MINI4, but both models deliver the same outstanding flash-suppression performance.
SOCOM-4 suppressors also feature cutting-edge build quality, enabling them to thrive under the rigors of thousands of rounds fired in the harshest environments. Constructed in-house of 100 percent Inconel, using precision-machined and 3D-printed components they deliver unmatched durability in a lightweight, low-profile design that minimizes added length and bulk so you can maintain firearm maneuverability when needed. And our Fast-Attach® system allows the same split-second attachment and detachment of the suppressor without sacrificing repeatability, regardless of the number of on/off cycles. Optimized for use with SureFire open-tine flash hiders, SOCOM-4s are also backward compatible with millions of Fast-Attach muzzle devices in circulation worldwide.”
