New from Fortis Manufacturing is their LE Castle Nut End Plate Systems.
The New LE ( light weight) Castle Nut End Plate Systems are designed to eliminate the need for staking the castle nut as with most home builders this task can be overlooked or incorrectly executed, resulting in the castle nut backing off which could potentially lead to catastrophic failure of internal components.
The second goal of the new LE Castle Nut End Plate System is to reduce overall weight.
A standard milspec castle nut weighs approximately 0.59 ounces and with Fortis’ new design they were able to reduce the weight to approximately 70% of the standard milspec castle nut.
Fortis Manufacturing’s LE Castle Nut End Plate System will come with your choice of either aluminum or steel castle nut as Fortis has stated the Aluminum billet they use will hold up under the tolerances and wear on that specific part of the rifle.
The way the LE Castle Nut End Plate System works is the same methodology as a taper mount on a barrel fits to a tapered muzzle device or suppressor.
The tapered portion of the castle nut drives itself into the endplate itself as the tapered portion of both components mate the surface area of the tapered portion creates a tight seal.
